Brooke Herzing is a ceramic artist, educator, and studio director based in Pontiac, Michigan. She earned her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2015 and her MFA in Ceramics from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2023.
Herzing’s practice explores womanhood, motherhood, domesticity, labor, identity, and the body through ceramic sculpture and functional objects. Working primarily with porcelain and stoneware, her work moves between life-size figurative sculpture, sculptural lighting, vessels, sinks, and other objects associated with the domestic environment. Through material, surface, and form, she considers the tension between beauty and exhaustion, decoration and struggle, and the ways personal experience becomes embedded within the objects and spaces of everyday life.
Her work has been exhibited at venues including Cranbrook Art Museum, Mana Contemporary in Chicago, and Thrown Contemporary in London. Alongside her studio practice, Herzing has worked extensively in ceramics education and studio operations for more than a decade.
In 2026, she founded Kasper & Clay, a community ceramics studio and education space in Pontiac dedicated to accessible ceramics education, creative experimentation, and building connections within the local arts community. She also serves as a Commissioner on the Pontiac Arts Commission and works as a ceramics technician and instructor at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center.
